Japanese-Inspired | Architecturally Designed | Blackbutt Charred Timber
For this project, the clients sourced a traditional Japanese front door, imported specifically for the build. To ensure its strength and longevity, we reinforced it with a custom frame and incorporated a kick panel at the base using recycled copper sheeting.
The home uses ply extensively—particularly in the ceilings—creating warmth and texture throughout. Designed to feel open, light, and connected to its bushland setting, it features natural materials and simple, functional spaces.
Key elements include Blackbutt cladding, Miglas windows (timber inside, aluminium outside), and double glazing for high energy efficiency. A standout feature is the Tatami room — a traditional Japanese space used for meditation, sitting, tea, dining, or sleeping. Additional highlights include a cellar, a studio, a mudroom, a laundry, an outdoor entertaining area, and a triple carport.
